The WestCore Studio Story
I’m Sofia Varela—30 years young with 7 years of experience teaching group fitness and a proud, Latina first time business owner!
Teaching full-time for 7 years in the Bay Area has not once felt like a job or a chore. My love for coaching megaformer classes is about so much more than just transforming bodies. I feel empowered when empowering others to show up for themselves with both grace and courage. The connections formed in a space where we all come together to be vulnerable and celebrate our strengths is unparalleled. And that is the space I intend to create with WestCore Studio. I want to hold a supportive and transformational space that makes you feel at home with every class.
The opportunity to open my own megaformer studio is a dream I never envisioned coming true, but I felt a calling the day my previous employer closed their doors. Could I have found a different studio to continue teaching at? Yes. However, I knew in my heart I could not leave this strong, committed and beautiful community behind. So I took a leap of faith and knew this was my opportunity to keep this community together, while I personally and professionally grow, nourish and fully invest my all into them.
What’s to come
I decided to open my own studio and jump all-in despite having no savings to start a business—yikes! So, how am I doing this? Because of how unconditionally giving and amazing this community is, so many have contributed to my GoFundMe, helping to raise $18,705! Through this and personal contributions, I am doing my best to gather the necessary funding to open up shop. I’m doing this for my community and for those who never had the courage to step foot into a boutique fitness studio…I know it can feel intimidating and scary! I am creating WestCore Studio to be a home where everyone is welcome, celebrated and empowered—no matter where you are in your wellness journey. The WestCore community will be your biggest cheerleader and accountability buddy. I cannot wait to open my doors and welcome you home.
